Conference Theme and Focus Areas

The theme for i-CoMB 2024 is “Advancing Marine Biotechnology for Ecosystems and Societal Well-Being.” This theme emphasizes the critical role of marine biotechnology in preserving marine ecosystems while enhancing human welfare. As the global marine environment faces unprecedented challenges, the solutions explored at this conference will contribute to sustainable marine resource management and innovations in biotechnology.

The conference highlights five core areas of marine biotechnology that reflect the diverse and evolving landscape of this field:

  1. Microbial Biotechnology –  Exploring the vital role of microbes in marine ecosystems and their biotechnological applications.
  2. Natural Products from Marine Bioresources –  Investigating marine biodiversity as a source for bioactive compounds with industrial and pharmaceutical potential.
  3. Climate Change and Organismal Adaptation –  Addressing how marine species are adapting to the impacts of climate change and the biotechnological strategies that can mitigate these effects.
